7. Interacting with the Amazing Human Cell and Its Many Functions. This is two-part Lesson where Students will be studying the amazing human cell with its many structures, purposes, types, and potential. Students in this Lesson will learn about human cells as the basic building blocks of all living things, how the human body is composed of trillions of cells providing structure for the various body systems and parts. Students will learn how cells take in nutrients from food, convert those nutrients into energy, and carry out specialized functions. In part 1 we will cover the cytoskeleton, mitochondria, nucleus, plasma membrane, and ribosomes, each with a different function and will draw a cell structure while learning the various parts. In part 2 we will discuss the types of cells: blood cells, muscle cells, skin cells, nerve cells, glandular cells and more. Each will be discussed and studied in detail. In addition, Students will study the work of the human cell and to recognize the importance of how cells operate, live, and die inside and outside the body, as well as how human cells are self-contained machines which run our twelve body systems and drive away sickness and disease. Students will be aware just how important it is to properly feed and nourish all the various cells in the human body.
8. Learning All About the 12 Body Systems That Keep You Alive. This is a six-part Lesson where Students will learn all about the 12 different physiological systems that keep humans alive and functioning while awake or asleep, giving them helpful information about their body and how to care for it. Students will study the 12 systems in the human body: the cardiovascular system, excretory system, reproductive system, nervous system, immune system, digestive system, muscular system, circulatory system, endocrine system (hormones), skeletal system, respiratory system, and integumentary system (skin). Each system will be covered in some detail with side notes on conditions that affect youth in each category, e.g. bone growth, brain development, skins issues like acne, and much more. Students will describe and explain the 12 different physical body systems and apply at least two ways to be aware of each bodily system and how we as humans can keep it functioning at optimal levels. Homework will be simple but highly interesting as Students will investigate ways to be aware of each bodily system, thus applying an understanding of course material to local ecologies (home, place of worship, park, playground, social networks online, and to personal spiritual formation)
9.Learning Fox’s Ten Proven Ways to Reduce Stress and Anxiety Over Tests and Exams. In this two-part Lesson Students will get a real eye-opener as will parents, with plenty of ways to reduce, or even eliminate stress over exams, tests, and pop quizzes. As an adult student having test anxiety issues myself, I combined and developed ten proven techniques to help reduce test anxiety, before, during, and after a test. Whether you are 7 or 17 or 57 years old, test anxiety can be a grade killer at worst, and stress producer at best. Students will learn ways to reduce test anxiety, such as: color therapy, ways of studying test material, breathing techniques, note taking and note making methods, physical exercise, practicing test questions, negative-to-positive thought patterns, what to do 24 hours prior to a test, complex counting and more. Also covered in this Lesson will be the many signs of anxiety and what to do about them. This one Lesson has helped many, many Students over the years to better be prepared for, and receive a better score, on tests and exams, as well as apply these methods to everyday stressors.
10. How to Reduce Stress, Manage Anxiety, and Remain Calm. This three-part Lesson is based on stress management methods and will be taught in a format that produces better results for the Student by working within psychological and relational concerns. This Lesson introduces my 3Rs of stress reduction and recovery from my family and trauma counseling practice: Reexamination, Reassurance, and Resolution. Students will study the needed information and coping skills to overcome stress related issues by introducing Education about injuries and stress, Direction and the steps to take, Support to ensure growth, Application of tools and interactive activities, and Management of learned skills (EDSAM). In this Lesson, Students will learn all about the mind-zapping multifaceted effects of stress that are no less damaging to a young person or adolescent than an adult. In fact, for them, stress may be more harmful, thus requiring tested and proven methods that work to reduce or eliminate stress. This all starts with a re-examination of issues and concerns, reassurance that these methods work, and resolution to stress and related issues.
