This is a seven-part Lesson wherein Student(s) will examine the lives of Jesus / Yahshua and His twelve Disciples through a historical‑Biblical lens. This Lesson covers their backgrounds before meeting Yahshua and their calling and roles during His ministry. Students will learn about their unique personalities and spiritual growth, their post‑ascension ministries and martyrdoms and their contributions to the New Testament. Within this Lesson Students will study the diversity of callings, transformation through discipleship, faithfulness in mission and Yahshua’s final words of encouragement, admonishment and instruction to each Disciple.
Understanding the life of the Twelve Disciples before, during and after Yahshua’s ministry is essential for Biblical literacy so that Students gain a deeper understanding of the Gospels, Acts and early church history. Each Disciple’s story highlights a different aspect of spiritual growth, such as Peter’s restoration, John’s love, Thomas’s honest doubt, Matthew’s repentance, Simon’s redirected zeal, James’s martyrdom and Judas’s tragic fall. The Disciples as a group model courage, humility, perseverance, evangelism and servant leadership. Students will see that Yahshua calls the bold and the quiet, the educated and the simple, the broken and the whole, the doubter and the zealot. This historical Lesson helps Students understand their own calling in the Yahweh’s Kingdom and will strengthen a Students’ ability to compare sources, evaluate historical claims and assist in being able to articulate theological differences with clarity and respect for other belief systems.
