This is a four-part Lesson wherein Student(s) will explore how adoption, guardianship and chosen‑family relationships appear throughout the Bible. They will examine stories where individuals are raised, protected, or mentored by people who are not their biological parents. Through narrative study, discussion and writing reflection, Students learn how these relationships shaped Biblical history and what they reveal about belonging, responsibility and compassion. This Lesson is designed to help understand more of what adoption looks like in the Bible, but in real everyday life and spiritual adoption as a way to think about being Born Again.
Adoption and guardianship are recurring themes in Scripture, often shaping the trajectory of major Biblical figures. Studying these stories helps students: Understand the cultural and historical context of family structures in the ancient world; Recognize how God / Yahweh works through nontraditional families and spiritual design; Develop empathy for diverse family experiences today; See how responsibility, care and covenant relationships extend beyond biology. This Lesson also highlights the grafting in of Gentiles to Yahweh’s Olive Tree. Students will be encouraged to use critical thinking, respectful dialogue and personal reflection on what it means to be adopted into the Kingdom of Yahweh and care for others in community and in fellowship.
