This Bible based Lesson introduces Students to the three major Abrahamic monotheistic faiths: Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Students will explore the similarities and differences in how each of these diverse belief systems and religious traditions understands The Creator, Truth and religious authority. The Lesson also raises critical questions about pluralism, tolerance, and exclusivity in religious belief. By examining these dissimilar perspectives, Students will gain insight into how faith-based traditions shape identity, religious worldview, and interfaith or different faith dialogue.
Given the religiously charged landscape of the 21st Century, the need to appreciate, or at the very least be aware of cultural literacy. Understanding the Abrahamic faiths is essential for gaining knowledge of global history, culture and current events. By promoting critical thinking, and by prompting Students to wrestle with questions of truth, tolerance and exclusivity, it will sharpen their ability to analyze complex ideas. Have an interfaith awareness by exposure to diverse religious perspectives which should foster empathy, respect and informed dialogue in a pluralistic society. Another point of rational for this Lesson is personal reflection of each Student. They are encouraged to consider how claims of truth and faith commitments influence others and their own worldview and relationships.
