This is a three-part Lesson wherein Student(s) will learn how colors and flags function as political symbols in the United States — Red, Blue, Purple, Green, Rainbow, plus emblematic flags and symbols such as the Republican elephant, the Democratic donkey, and contemporary MAGA flag and movement. This Lesson emphasizes historical origins, symbolic meaning, how symbols shape political identity and behavior and civic implications of symbolic politics. Red / Blue / Purple / Green / Rainbow: origins, modern meaning, influence on campaigns and identity. Also touched on is the Antifa black flag and circled‑A: anarchist roots, anti‑fascist lineage, decentralized tactics; the Nazi flag and swastika: ancient origins, Nazi appropriation, modern extremist use and legal/social responses and the Trump flag and MAGA slogan, origin, movement characteristics, role in contemporary politics. This Lesson is designed to help understand what it takes to tell the difference between flag meanings and colors so as not to be fooled for lack of information.

Historical context: Many symbols have deep, contested histories; understanding origins prevents simplistic or misleading interpretations.
